2025 Chancellor's Book Club Announcement (April 28, 2025)

Dear Colleagues and Students,

As we move into the summer session, we can take pride in reflecting on another remarkable year that truly lived up to our motto of putting 'Dreams in Practice.'

At this time of year, it has become a tradition to announce the title for the next Chancellor's Book Club. This event continues to serve as a meaningful way to bring our community together, fostering thoughtful conversation and the exchange of diverse perspectives around a great book. Over the years, we鈥檝e had the opportunity to read and discuss many exceptional works, each one enriching our shared experience.

My next selection is a classic鈥攕hort at just 146 pages, but rich in insight: Meditations by Marcus Aurelius. Often regarded as the last of Rome鈥檚 five good emperors, Aurelius ruled from 161 to 180 CE, a time that marked the end of an era of peace, stable, and tranquil governance. Meditations offers a timeless guide for navigating life鈥檚 challenges and cultivating inner strength. Through its practical reflections, it speaks to the importance of self-control, perspective, and finding meaning in a complex world. What makes this book enduringly relevant is its quiet wisdom and ability to offer comfort, clarity, and resilience鈥攈elping each of us shape our own personal grand narrative with greater intention and depth.

I hope you have time and interest in joining me on this reading adventure. To be sure, it will provide a starting point for a provocative and engaging discussion in the Fall.
